Word Of The Day: apathostic

People often ask me what my religious beliefs are and I have, as a rule, claimed myself an agnostic. Until now. I still don't know if there is a higher power or an afterlife... and I have come to the conclusion that I really don't care.

I am an apathetic agnostic.

I have decided that there isn't really a term to fit my belief system, so I have coined a new term... apathostic. Simply put, I don't care in the slightest whether there is a higher power or what his plans/demands are for me. I try to live my life as morally as possible and follow the commandments that make sense. I try to be honest, kind and helpful to my fellow travelers thru life. Where I go after death is really not that important to me. I do not believe in hell and most ideas of heaven don't thrill me that much. Me, I'm a here and now kind of guy. Whether or not this will please or appease some higher power is not my concern... it works for me.

apathostic: A person that doesn't know or care whether or not there is a higher power or an afterlife.

Please, go back to what you were doing before I interrupted you with this unsolicited announcement. Hey, it's my blog... deal.

No... I do not worship Mr. T ... I just thought it was cool. I found it here.

Bea Arthur, R.I.P.

Just heard that the, always entertaining, Bea Arthur has died at the age of 86.

I've loved her acting and comedy since she first appeared on All In The Family and then Maude and, later, The Golden Girls. I also enjoyed her appearances on Malcolm In The Middle, as Dewey's babysitter. She was a great comedienne with great comic timing and a voice that was immediately recognizable.

Sadly, that voice is now stilled.

My condolences to her family, friends and many fans.

Count me as a fan...

This has shown up on several of the blogs I visit, and I am sure everyone has seen the thing way too many times (not that I think you can see it too many times!) Nonetheless, I am including it here because, DAMMIT, I like it....

I would also have embedded the Britain's Got Talent clip of the inspiring Susan Boyle
which I believe everyone should get a chance to see but embedding has been disabled.
So here is the link to get there and watch it yourself. It will make your day.

TV death watch or Save My Shows!

It seems that I have a love for the underdogs of television. As it stands right now, 4 of my top 5 favorite network shows are facing likely cancellation.

Chuck, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
, Reaper and Dollhouse are all on the block. If Chuck and Sarah Connor could be saved, I would consider it a win. If Chuck, alone, could survive, I would consider it a small victory.

Chuck is, hands down, the most entertaining and endearing show on TV right now!! Watch it, dammit!

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
is nearly as good as the first to films and the time travel turmoil is nearly as mind-bending as anything on Lost.

Dollhouse stumbled out of the gate and didn't manage to find it's feet until the fourth episode; but it has improved immensely. I think it needs another season to develop a following.

Reaper is simple, mindless fun; and Ray Wise obviously enjoys his role as Satan and manages to make him lovable and loathsome at the same time.

At least Lost will be back.

Health has no fury like a copay

I thought I should pop in and let anyone stopping by know that I am still here.

Have been busy actually using my health and optical insurance for a change. Last year I dutifully paid my premiums but couldn't afford to actually pay the copays for actual visits and other out-of-pocket expenses. This year, I decided to do what was needed instead what I could afford; so I have gone in for my check-up and had 2 visits with a neurologist regarding my wrist and arm pains. The last visit was a fun test involving electric shocks and sticking needles in various parts of my arms and hands; the doctor performing the test said I have pinched nerves in both wrists. I go back next week for a follow up with the neurologist to find out my options; I can say right now that I cannot afford the deductibles and copays for surgery nor the loss of income from missing work.

I also have new glasses but couldn't afford to get the high-index plastic so the lenses are a bit thicker than I'd like. Still it is better than no glasses.

Went and saw Coraline at the Cinemark last night with Only Child and her friend-who-is-a-boy-but-not-her-boyfriend. It was a nice time at the bookstore, mall and movies.

Our tax refund is all gone and still no HDTV!!! Not that I am jealous of those that got one with their refund....much. Still, at least the pantry is stocked, bathtub replaced, car fixed and glasses are bought (although we couldn't get my wife's this year).

All in all, I would have to say that things are better than before the refund.

Only Child prepares to leave for Chicago next weekend to participate in the Junior States of America Spring Session.
