He Gave Me The VP-Jeebies...
Spent the last 2 days battling Blogger for control of my blog. It refused to do anything I asked of it.
So, what did you think of that VP throw-down?
My initial reaction was that any independents watching would consider it a draw, unless they were aware that most of what Cheney was shoveling was honey-coated bullshit.
My god, that man can lie! Just watching him made me feel as if I was being verbally molested by my grandpa. His kindly elder statesmen demeanor was well practiced and he did little to debunk the idea that he was really running the country. Unfortunately, most of his seeming command of the subject matter of the debate was just one layer of Bushit after another. He lies better than Dumbya and thus seemed to be a match for Edwards.
Edwards performed admirably and managed to cover a lot of ground. He pushed at getting the ticket's message out and did a lot in the way of debunking a lot of the myths of this administration. Where he failed was in not responding to a lot of the obvious Bushit that Cheney was countering with. It was as if he had a plan and had no contingency for counter attacking any lies that Cheney could smarmily throw at him.
The lie that pissed me off the most, is the one that everyone else seemed to take lightly. As far as lies go, it was seemingly inconsequential. That lie was...
Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session.
The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight.
Of course, the truth is that Cheney had met Edwards at least 3 times prior to the debate. As for his Tuesday visits to the Senate, it has been noted that he rarely fulfilled his role as president of the Senate on those visits. Those Tuesday visits were actually to attend republican policy luncheons and avoid accidentally meeting any democrats. This was in keeping with the dividing rather than uniting aspect of the administration.
All of this makes that lightweight remark seem unbelievably calculating and an outright lie. So why does it make Chris Matthews so orgasmic in his praise of it? Even as he points out the Bushit of it, Matthews seems in awe of the VP's debate skills... that sure put Edwards in his place! It may not have been factual, but it helped bolster Cheney's position that Edwards was a lightweight in the political arena and unfit to be VP. Apparently, outright lying is considered great debate skills on MSNBC.
A lot of Cheney's lies were half-truths, misdirection, statistical abuse and
normal political spin; but the first-meeting lie was out and out lying for the sake of belittling Edwards.
It is sickening.
