I went and saw Spider-Man 2 again last night and made this observation...
Those of you who have seen the movie remember the scene where the film grinds to a stop so that Peter Parker can have cake with the landlord's daughter; I could not figure out why on Earth it was in the movie until I saw it again.
Just before the girl's entrance, Peter is standing at the window wondering why he can't have what he wants. Then, we get the cake scene. Apparently, it is there to reinforce the dilemma for slower members of the audience... Peter cannot have his cake and eat it too. It is a literal example of that fact (See the empty plate!).
Not that anybody cared, but I had to get that off my chest.
