First Look At The Joker

Newsarama had this picture of Heath Ledger's Joker from the Batman Begins sequel, The Dark Knight.

Very disturbing. Probably much closer to what a psychotic might come up with in the way of make-up for his Joker persona.

This is going to be very good or go very wrong. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I will have to wait to see it in the context of the story to decide. I do want my comic-based movies to treat the subject matter in a more serious (non-campy) way, but I worry about going too far in that direction. I will hope for a nice balance between the two.

OK, that's disgusting looking. I think that's one of the reasons I never truly embraced comics or 'graphic novels' and the movies that derive from them. They are TOO graphic for me. I guess I am too visual. It's hard for me to get past the images to the storyline.

If I saw this out of context I would definitely think it was a shot from some movie about a cannibal tribe.

While I think this is a good start -- what the man who would become the Joker looked like shortly after the accident -- I would hope it's not the end-point. If the character has any style he'll use secondary makeup to reign the red in closer to his lips, cover the scars and even out the white as he develops the Joker persona.
