It Was 30 Years Ago Today...

I guess you could say it was a long, long time ago, and it certainly seems like it was in a galaxy far, far away. 3o years ago today, Star Wars opened. Sometime that summer, after reading the novelization (and trying to figure out why I couldn't find other books in the adventures of Luke Skywalker), I entered a darkened theatre and fell in love with the world of Star Wars. 20 years later, I would get my heart broken by a new trilogy.

Thanks to Tony Collett for reminding me of this special day and pointing out my misremebrance in his post below.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO STAR WARS!!

Here is a video tribute to the original trilogy made by someone far more youtube-talented than I am.

"trying to figure out why I couldn't find the first 3 books in the adventures of Luke Skywalker"
Um, Mark, from what I remember, the original novelization of Star Wars had no reference that it was the fourth of anything. It was only when "Empire Strikes Back" was identified as Episode V that the "Episode IV: A New Hope" was added at the 1981 rerelease of Star Wars.
The only references in that novelization were "The Adventures of Luke Skywalker" and that was part of a larger "Journal of the Whills"

That may well be me
misremembering... I am old. Still, there was references on the book that suggested to me that it was one book of a bigger adventure. I remember The Adventures of Luke Skywalker and Journal of The Whills ... maybe that is what made me go looking for other books; not neccessarily the first 3 books. It was probably the later numbering that made me think it was the first 3 books I was looking for. I can't seem to find an image of the book I had (I know it was a paperback with a gold cover) to help shake the old memory tree to see what falls out.

Per Tony's superior memory I have altered my remembrance to better reflect the reality of the situation. My senility confirmed; I now await incontinence.

Heh...[Kid 2] (my SW addicted child) constantly argues with me about the "numbering" of these movies. As any SANE person would, I consider New Hope the first, the balance of that trilogy, two and three, and then that other stuff 4-6. It was only when she pulled out a box (the re-release of the FIRST movie) that I realized that some schmuck had renumbered them. Well, I adamently refuse to acknowledge the error. And I fight, fervently, to correct it in the 'yute' of today. What a travesty!
