The GOP gets to work...

WASHINGTON - A divided Senate approved an $800 billion increase in the federal debt limit Wednesday, a major boost in borrowing that Sen. John Kerry and other Democrats blamed on the fiscal policies of President Bush.

Here is an interesting bit of info from the article...

Administration officials urged lawmakers to act quickly. The government reached its $7.38 trillion borrowing cap last month, and since then the Treasury Department has paid federal bills by taking cash from a civil service retirement account, which it plans to repay.

I'm glad to see that they are being so fiscally responsible.

The House republicans also got to work on important matters, such as making sure that Tom DeLay's ass is covered...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- House Republicans approved a party rules change Wednesday that could allow Majority leader Tom DeLay to retain his leadership post if he is indicted by a Texas grand jury on state political corruption charges.

"This takes the power away from any partisan crackpot district attorney who may want to indict" party leaders and make a name for himself, Bonilla said

Doesn't it also take a crackpot grand jury to indict someone? Apparently, anyone who goes after a republican is a crackpot or partisan.

At least the government is working for Tom No Lips DeLay; when will it start working for the rest of us?
