Tests Are Hard
The Bush League has pounced upon John Kerry's global test comment with an unbridled enthusiasm that reeks of desperation.
Kerry was quick to respond to their "internationalist" hysteria.
We live in the world, not apart from or above it. Why is it a bad thing or weakness to acknowledge that the U.S. is part of a global community and should consider it's actions within the context of the existence of the rest of the world? Shouldn't any action (whether preemptive or otherwise) taken for our security be vetted for all possible positive and negative reactions from the other members of the global community (both allies and enemies)? The Iraq debacle is a prime example of the need for this global test. We caused major rifts with many longtime allies and created far more hatred amongst our enemies (and created terrorists for generations to come). The threat wasn't imminent nor all that great at the time of our invasion of Iraq. We deposed one really well known, nasty bastard and created many more small-time and unknown nasty bastards. Neither our world nor the Iraqis' world is safer because of this feel good war that Dumbya instigated.
Condi Rice trotted out to the microphone to hoist up her nitwit boss and prove that she is as unfit for her job as he is...
"I heard Senator Kerry say that there was some kind of 'global test' that you ought to be able to pass to support preemption, and I don't understand what that means," Rice told CNN's "Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer."
How dense do you have to be to realize that cowboy behavior is mildly amusing for rednecks but disastrous for world leaders. Maybe Condi should run the global test on the behavior of the soldiers in this story...
GIs charged in Iraqi general's death
How does this behavior help the U.S. in it's war on terror(ists) and help us gain allies in the good fight? Yes, this guy was probably an asshole bound to burn in hell; but our allies and enemies know that the Geneva convention doesn't allow assholes to be murdered during interrogation. Maybe the troops should run that global test through their minds before taking questionable actions. Oh, wait, questioning any action during this war is unpatriotic.
