This article on brain pacemakers is filled with hope, awe, anxiety and a little fear. It is truly amazing what science is capable of doing these days. I just hope that such endeavors are not unnecessarily hampered by the possibilities for the misuse of such techniques. These procedures do not seem to compare to lobotomies and the like in that the effects could be reversed if ineffectual (at least it sounds like it from the article).
The possible benefits of such advances outweigh the worries, but a close eye must be kept on all research and applications. Fear should not hinder the wonderful possibilities of this research.
