Jan Miner died today at the age of 86. Who? You might ask. She was Madge the manicurist in the popular Palmolive commercials for 27 years. She may have had a long resume to be proud of, but she will always be remembered as Madge. As advertisers struggle to capture the minute attention span of today's television audience, there are no more product spokespeople with any longevity... I miss that. The Maytag Repairman(Jesse White), Josephine the Plumber (Jane Withers), Rosie the Waitress (Nancy Walker) and Mr. Whipple (Dick Wilson) are icons and deservedly so; all of them spent, at least 20 years selling their wares.
All of these TV icons are gone now (except Dick Wilson) and fondly remembered by yours truly. I know it's just pop culture nostalgia, but I love it; and, for now....
I'm soaking in it.
