Debates Dampened By Dread Of Discord

Ever since Iowa, the democratic candidates have come off as detached from the debate process. All are afraid of truly debating their counterparts for fear of the dreaded negative campaign accusations. Gephardt and Dean bared their teeth at each other in Iowa and, supposedly, the Iowans got squeamish and rejected both of them. Now, the debates seem like group stump speeches. Only Dean and Kerry actually debated in South Carolina on Thursday night, and, then, only for a moment. They might as well all rent a few buses and travel together and take turns at the podium. Negative campaigning is showing pictures of your opponent and a hooker rather than citing your legitimate differences in experience and in your vision for the future. Can we not admit that, lying about your opponent and pointing out, what you believe to be are his faults or shortcomings, are two vastly different things? Please, guys, roll up your sleeves and stop the constant, Why you should vote for me and add liberal (no pun intended) dash of, Why you shouldn't vote for him to the mix. We are all adults and should be able to handle polite discourse and reasoned disagreements.
