I read about this at Occasional Superheroine...
This young woman was savagely beaten to death, when she attempted to save her boyfriend from being attacked for the sin of being different. The couple were found by police lying together comatose; so badly beaten that their genders were not immediately known.
Her boyfriend survived but suffers with the knowledge that his love died trying to protect him.
One of the attackers and his mum sniggered during the police interogation in complete ignorance and apathy for what the little psycho had done.
Sometimes this world is too damn depressing.
