Omega The Unimpressive

This art preview from the aforementioned Omega The Unknown revival/revisitation has a less than impressive look to it. They have, apparently, decided to go with a realistic look for the series. The sample seems a bit flat and the colors are subdued to the point of making me drowsy. Both characters have no... character. The most puzzling thing is the costume; why did they stick with the original one? Even I, who loved the original series, found it rather bland. It might have worked with the more dynamic art of Jim Mooney, but fails under the realistic choices of Farel Dalrymple.

I realize that most of my reaction stems from my fondness for the original and the nostalgia-factor that makes me hypercritical of anything different from what I've imagined for the series. Without Gerber or Skrenes' involvement, I am already prejudiced against the damn thing. Maybe they could get Gentleman Jim Mooney to do some vibrant and dynamic covers for the series.

Still, I will buy the book and give 'em a chance to win me over.
