Fear Of The Unknown

According to a brief note in this week’s Time Magazine and repeated by Newsarama, author Jonathan (Fortress Of Solitude) Lethem will be writing a new series based on the beloved (by me) 70's comic Omega The Unknown. No details were given regarding what Lethem's plans were for the book, but I can only hope that he stays true to the brief 10-issue run of the book. Strangely, Newsarama includes a link to Lethem's website, where he mocks the original series. Hopefully, like Don Rickles, Lethem mocks because he loves.

I was in hopes that Steve Gerber and Mary Skrenes would get another chance to retell the story of the silent hero and the mysterious James-Michael Starling. The new book may be great; but, no matter the quality, I will always wonder what Gerber and Skrenes could have done if given the chance to expand on what they started.

The story also mentions the horrible attempt to resolve the original series in later issues of the Defenders; but the less said about that, the better.

I think I will order Fortress Of Solitude and check out Lethem's talent.

I will also be fervently hoping that I don't regret getting the Omega The Unknown revival that I hoped for.
