Hypocrisy and Hand Grenades

Does anyone else think that all of these expatriates urging Iraqis to get out the vote in spite of the threats of death is the height of hypocrisy?

These expats are the ones that fled Iraq during Saddam's rule to avoid death or torture; not an unwise course of action if the option was available. Avoiding the risk of death is logical. The expats sat out the rest of the Saddam years.

Then, freedumb marches into Iraq and destroys the regime and much of the infrastructure; many are freed from tyranny by death and the rest try to survive the occupation. A new, temporary/puppet government is put in place and Iraq struggles towards... something.

Do the expats return to help in the struggle? Many have, but those aren't the ones I'm talking about. It is the expats that have yet to return and are voting in absentia that have no right to tell their fellow countrymen to be brave in the face of the insurgents' threats.

I am so amused when I read these new stories that tell of how some expatriates must travel across the miles to cast their absentee ballot in one of only five polling places. The story tells how inconvenient it is for them to make the trip, but they will overcome to cast their vote for democracy. It is great to read about their love of freedom and their country; but this does not put them in any position of moral authority to urge others to face the very real risk of death to cast a symbolic vote for democracy just to make Dumbya feel good about himself.
