After reading this beliefnet article on the significance of atheist, Ron Reagan Jr. speaking at the Democratic National Convention and seeing the results of the accompanying poll, I was wondering if anyone thinks that an atheist or agnostic could ever be elected President?
The beliefnet poll shows that a mere 18% would be unlikely to vote for an atheist candidate...that seems like an unbelievable result for the unbelievers. While we're pondering, do you think a member of a non-Judeau-Christian faith could be elected president?
This poll by The Pew Research Center seems to be more in line with the intolerance of the pious.
Still, is there some slim chance that, someday, a majority of people will be able to grasp the idea that morality and values are not predicated on religious belief?
This article seems to give a tiny glimmer of hope, but what do you think?
