Bush To Doubters...Look! They Paid Me. I Must Have Been There!

Dubya practically gained the presidency thru the good ol' boy network and family influence. Now, he is shocked and insulted that someone might suggest he was paid without benefit of his attendance during his National Guard duty? Hmmm... Let's see... He was allowed to transfer to Alabama so as to work on a campaign there. Then, he was honorably discharged 8 months early to attend Harvard Business School. He told Tim Russert that he and the army worked it out so that he could leave early. Bill Maher wanted Russert to zero in on that statement... Did the less privileged kids get to work out discharges with the guard? The whole thing seems like more special treatment for Dubya... The story of his life; and, yet, he is amazed that people might think he was treated differently than other members of the guard.

With that said, is any of this really important? We all know that Dubya made his way up in the world via family contacts to cover his mediocrity. We are also aware that, during the Viet Nam War, the National Guard was the way to go to avoid going. To have Dubya bravely defending the National Guard's honor, is a pathetic ploy that seeks to compare then and now; we all know that serving in today's Guard is as dangerous as any other military service... to compare then and now is insulting to today's National Guard.

Note to Democrats: Drop this whole National Guard rehash and move on to issues that matter.
